Come to the New Brunswick Free Public Library for a free concert provided by SpeakMusic Conservatory in Highland Park. Two senior pianists will perform a selection of classical music and anime piano arrangements.
Irene Westfall started playing piano at age 6 under the direction of Aaron Weiman. Over the past eleven years, she has studied classical, ragtime, jazz, and salsa piano under the direction of Enriqueta Somarriba, Aaron Weiman, and Roger Noguerol. She has also received instruction from Berklee School of Music and Peabody Conservatory faculty at summer programs. The salsa band La Flama, led by Roger Noguerol, recorded their album La Llavó in 2016. Irene has performed in Carnegie Hall and Baruch Performing Arts Center, and ranked silver and double bronze in Golden Key Music Festival. On June 13, Irene hosted her senior recital where she played a varied repertoire, including composers like Debussy, Bach, and Schubert. Headed to Wesleyan University in the fall, Irene plans to continue playing piano while branching into new genres.
Yulin Ni first started playing the piano when she was 7. Since then, she's been enamored by the beautiful tone and versatility of the instrument, and, along with her brother, discovered the world of anime piano music from an early age. In her free time, Yulin scours the internet for sheet music of anime soundtracks arranged for piano - recently, she's also started experimenting with making her own arrangements. Someday, she'd like to join the ranks of all the talented anime pianists on YouTube and upload her own piano covers online. She is currently building up her classical repertoire, with the hopes that the skills learned from doing so will aid her in her future musical endeavors.
All are welcome to come enjoy the music provided by these two young talents!
