Internationally known violinist Alexei Yavtuhovich will perform a solo concert of Bach’s greatest compositions at the Old Bridge Public Library. Old Bridge resident Yavtuhovich was born in Belarus and was a member of the prestigious Belarus State Concert Orchestra and Belarus String Quartet and has performed extensively internationally. In addition, they will feature a new piece by Trenton composer Ricky Lombardo entitled “Enchantment Trios.”

Pysanky: Ukrainian Egg Decorating

A pysanka (singular) is a Ukrainian Easter egg decorated with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a wax-resistant method. The designs are not actually painted on, but rather written, in beeswax. Local artist Olga Kobryn will host this lecture about this ancient art of egg decorating and will explain the methods, symbols and colors used. A short film about pysanky by Slavko Novitsky will also be shown.

Grant, brings his reenactment of Grant (as a General) to the Library. He has performed his popular lectures and stage performances across the country. During this one-hour lecture, Serfass will share intimate stories regarding this time in US history when the lives of Grant and Lincoln became forever intertwined. Ukrainian Embroidery Lecture and Workshop

The Old Bridge Public Library will offer a presentation about the history and symbolism of Ukrainian Embroidery. Local artist Olga Kobryn will share her knowledge of this art form and how it varies from region to region. She will also discuss the contemporary use of Ukrainian embroidery in clothing design today, and explore various embroidery stitches, patterns and motifs used to decorate clothing and other items. Following the presentation, there will be a hands-on workshop at 2:30 pm. Interested participants should know how to use a needle and thread.

The Old Bridge Public Library will host its third annual Winterfest family event. This year, one of the day’s special highlights will be an indoor nine-hole miniature golf course. In addition, there will be plenty of games and winter-themed crafts for guests of all ages. There will also be delicious holiday refreshments, and patrons will have the chance to win prizes and will enjoy demonstrations of the Library’s 3D printer and vinyl cutter in its Idea Farm makerspace. The Library’s annual “New Year’s at Noon” celebration will also occur that day, allowing children and their families to experience the ball drop, crafts and activities at a kid-friendly time.

Friends of the Library Holiday Book Sale

The Friends of the Old Bridge Public Library will host their annual holiday book sale at the main branch of the Library from December 1-4th, 2017. Thousands of adult, young adult and children’s books, CDs, DVDs and audiobooks will be available for sale at very reasonable prices, generally ranging from 50 cents to $2.00. The sale will offer many items suitable for holiday gifts as well as for stocking up for winter reading.

Book sale hours will be as following: Friday, December 1st from 10am – 8:30pm; Saturday December 2nd from 10am – 4:30pm; Sunday, December 3rd from 12:00pm – 4:30pm; and Monday, December 4th from 10am – 8:30pm.
